Useful Local Information

Midhurst is the ideal base from which to explore the wealth of historic buildings, country houses, splendid gardens, museums, galleries and theatres the area has to offer. For those seeking a little excitement and glamour, Midhurst is famously the home of English polo, an electrifying sport that attracts international players and large crowds throughout the summer months. Visitors can try their hand at a whole host of quintessentially English pursuits offered by the Cowdray Estate, such as golf, fishing and clay pigeon shooting.

Midhurst is surrounded by wonderfully diverse countryside including acres of attractive downland, woodland, wetland and heath perfect for more active pastimes such as walking, cycling and horse-riding. The South Downs Way is one of England’s finest National Trails, with views spanning 40 miles in every direction.

Midhurst Tourist Information Centre

Before you come, or on arrival, do contact the Tourist Information Centre. We have information covering a very large area from Selsey and the Witterings on the coast, Bosham and Chichester Harbour to the Hampshire border in the west, and beyond Midhurst and Petworth to the Surrey border in the north. The staff will be happy to offer advice on what to see and do in the area and to make Accommodation bookings (both local & national) for you. The service costs £3 plus a deposit of 10% of the first night's stay (in serviced accommodation) or 10% of the full stay to a maximum of 7 days (in non-serviced accommodation) and is non-refundable. However, the deposit is deducted from the final bill when you arrive at the accommodation booked for you. Advanced bookings are recommended, especially in high season, and it is essential that all prices and descriptions are confirmed prior to booking.
