Welcome to Midhurst
Described by English Heritage as a hidden jewel, Midhurst is located in the heart of the new South Downs National Park. A vibrant market town steeped in history, Midhurst dates back to medieval times and exhibits architectural features from throughout the ages.
The Midhurst district encompasses quintessentially English villages, privately-owned country estates, open heath & common land and a wonderful stretch of the Sussex South Downs.

The South Downs National Park
Covering an area of over 1600km
2, the South Downs are loved and protected for their beautiful and diverse landscapes of ancient woodlands, heathland and rivers, rolling chalk downlands and the Western Weald; which support a network of unique and internationally important wildlife.
The National Parks are known as ‘Britain’s breathing spaces’.
Nowhere is this truer than in Midhurst, where the easy pace of life, rural culture and strong sense of the past make it easy to forget that you are less than 50 miles from London and 30 from the historic naval city of Portsmouth.
The combination of accessibility with the feeling of complete escape make Midhurst the ideal choice for a short break.
Work is progressing at the new South Downs National Park headquarters in North Street and it is planned to open the South Downs Centre to the public at the end of April.
